Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos which include commentary on the representations of women that are prevalent in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they appear in popular media. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in feminist issues, gender and gender equality from a very early stage of her life. In 2009, while in university she launched her Feminist Frequency web site. In 2009, the determined young woman was slammed online for launching a website that focused on the gender of videogames. This attack didn't stop her, rather it strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. Her many notable contributions in the feminist field have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning journalist. She was also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
